Hong Kong’s Latest Ice Rink is Now Open in Discovery Bay
Resort Skating only in Discovery Bay with International Standard Facility and Award-winning Coach

Hong Kong 5 May 2021: A world-class new rink in an idyllic beach-side location is about to transform ice skating in the city and herald a new era for sports such as ice hockey, short track speed skating and figure skating.

Resort Skating – Only in Discovery Bay

As Hong Kong’s first resort-style skating destination, Discovery Bay Ice Rink offers state-of-the-art facilities in a scenic seaside destination famed for its European resort ambience. Visitors can enjoy an event-packed getaway in Discovery Bay that includes ice skating, beach fun on the 400m Tai Pak Beach, hiking, spa and staycation at the resort hotel Auberge Discovery Bay Hong Kong, or even golfing at Discovery Bay Golf Club.  Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, DB Ice Rink is situated in a natural environment that is unmatched anywhere in Hong Kong.

The Latest All-In-One Ice Rink in Hong Kong

An international-size venue, DB Ice Rink is the newest addition in town and has a professional coaching team and encourages skating at every level – from nurturing beginners to training talents of all ages, to hosting international competitions, camps and tournaments.  DB Ice Rink is ready to provide the best-in-class standard for ice skaters and a brand-new skating cum getaway experience for everyone.

World-class Facilities

Facilities for public skaters will include comfortable rental skates, UV light-installed skates storage room – the UV light can speed up the dehydration of skate and remove bacteria by professional technology; Skate Helper – a safety-first training aid for skaters of every age; 216 electronic lockers with octopus renting system, and family & disabled washrooms, all within the ice rink area.

For ice hockey, Discovery Bay Ice Rink is the first in Hong Kong to provide Male and Female hockey locker and shower room facilities for up to four teams, and is equipped with a total of 88 Air Pro ice hockey cage lockers (made in USA) that offer good ventilation and hygiene. Two 360 ̊ cameras installed in the rink will provide a live feed to a four-sided LED screen during competitions that will also serve as a scoreboard. Advanced figure skating equipment will include a single-axel-on-a-pole harness and a spinner for coaching high-level students, which are first-of-its-kind used in Hong Kong ice rink.

In support of sustainable development, DB Ice Rink introduced ice resurfacer – Zamboni from the US, which is different from the traditional ice resurfacer using propane gas. The electric-powered Zamboni will not emit exhaust gas while saving energy as to minimise negative environmental impact.

Professional Team

The venue will be home to DB Ice Skating School offering professional programmes from Tot, Pre-Alpha, Delta and to advanced level Freestyle Skater tests that are recognised by the Ice Skating Institute Asia (ISIAsia). Students of the school can go on to participate in ISIAsia-endorsed competitions in Hong Kong and overseas.

The new rink will be managed by a veteran team. Operations and coaching will be led by Senior Manager, Raul Gomes, the most experienced ice rink operator in Hong Kong, who is also a gold-level judge and a referee with over 40 years’ experience in all areas of ice rink management.

“Our vision is to provide both a fun environment where family members of all ages can explore ice skating, and a purpose-built facility to nurture an interest in ice sports such as figure skating and ice hockey,” said Raul Gomes.

He will be supported by figure skating Senior Coach, Harry Lee, the first home-grown, six-time winner of the Hong Kong Championship, and a team of professional skating coaches.

“Our goal is to create a world-class venue for international competitions such as ice hockey tournaments and professional figure skating contests. We also want to develop young talents in Hong Kong to compete at a high level,” said Harry Lee.
